The Katahdin Region
The greater Katahdin Region encompasses northern Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. Vast tracks of forest land separate the small towns that give the region its unique northwoods charm. The focal point of the region is Mt. Katahdin and Baxter State Park which offer endless oportunites of adventure for visitors to the region. Another natural wonder of the area is the Penobscot River, both the East and West Branches of the river offer many recreational activities. The Katahdin Region is a true four season destination. Hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing are just some of the activities that draw people to the region.

The greater Katahdin Region has many interesting historical and cultural landmarks to explore. Many of these landmarks are rements of the prosperous logging industry that existed in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
