
Greater Bangor Region
The Greater Bangor Region makes up all of southern Penobscot County and extends into Hancock, Waldo, Somerset and Piscataquis counties. In the 1800's the region prospered because of the Penobscot River and the lumbering industry that used the river to transported logs to the lumber mills and then to waiting ships in Bangor and Brewer. Continuing to this day, the Greater Bangor Region is an economic hub for this region of Maine. The area is currently rich with dining, entertainment, history, shopping, and cultural experiences for visitors to the region.
With its international airport, bus terminals, and many highways that take visitors to some of Maine's most remote and scenic places in a matter of hours, the Greater Bangor Region is well positioned as a starting point for your Maine vacation.
